Premarital & Marriage Counseling

Ready to build (or rebuild) the foundation of a strong marriage?

When you’re committing yourself to someone, there’s a whole host of emotions—hope and excitement, absolutely, but often some anxiety and uncertainty, too.

Maybe now you’ve realized that when you were growing up, you never had strong role models of what a healthy marriage actually looks like. You may be noticing patterns your partner and you get stuck in—common arguments or misunderstandings—that you know could use some attention.

Or perhaps you’ve been married for some time. The “honeymoon phase” feels long gone and today’s relationship feels defined by cycles of conflict that you haven’t been able to break on your own. Your children may have left home; now you're entering a new phase as "empty nesters" and have a new awareness that you are living more like roommates than romantic partners. You’re not sure what the future holds if things stay this way.

Premarital & Marriage Counseling Can Help You:

  • Equip your relationship for future success and seasons of life

  • Honor and recognize the value in your partner’s and your differences

  • Identify things that can be changed in your relationship (and learn to navigate those that can’t)

  • Discover and address the underlying roots of arguments or misunderstandings

  • Learn new communication, listening, and conflict skills

  • Tune into the needs in your relationship and feel confident in meeting them

I’m here to help you learn a new way of being together—one that can withstand the test of time.

You may be wondering if what you’re experiencing in your relationship is normal or if it means you should or shouldn’t be together. As your therapist, my job is to help you and your partner process these questions and begin working toward the relationship that both of you truly want.

In couples therapy, we’ll work together as a team. I’m not here to pick sides; rather, I’ll provide a space that assures both of you are heard and offer expertise on what works. We’ll start by understanding where your relationship is currently, and the areas where you need some support. Working together, we will create a plan to address what is challenging so that you can begin to move forward with new insight and a deeper sense of connection.

I want to help you gain skills that will serve you for a lifetime.

 The Prepare & Enrich Assessment

In addition to other evidence-based couples therapy methods, I am also trained in the Prepare & Enrich premarital & marriage assessment. This tool provides a personalized-to-you view of your relationship across 12 important categories, from finances to affection & sexuality.

The things we learn as part of the Prepare & Enrich assessment can direct us to the areas of your relationship where there are strengths as a couple and also where there is potential for growth or exploration to help you and your partner.

Invest in your future…together.
